Why all the complaining?
When I started my troop last year, I joined a number of Facebook groups. Of course, social media can be great for getting ideas but sadly some of the groups got really annoying. Here's why...
I realize that not every council will have supportive and engaged staff. I also realize in small towns, there may not be a council office near you. However, if you truly want to have a great troop, then make one. Complaining sadly often doesn't do much. Most council offices are staffed by people that are hired. So just like any other business, not every employee should be working there.
Some of the groups got out of control really quickly. It's kind of sad because, for each really awesome post that was helpful, there were at least 3 that were people complaining.
If you feel unsupported, then just know that you have the power to build your own troop and seek your own resources. Yes, if you are going to Scout with the Girl Scouts, then you'll need to follow some rules but in the grand scope of things, you just need to accept that you are not going to get help and move on.
I think it's sad that leaders feel unsupported but there are great councils out there doing great things. If your council doesn't have great training, ask a council that's known for their great training if they have online options so you can attend.
If you don't like the materials, make your own. There were many aspects of the Daisy Journeys that just did not work, so I wrote out the core message of each section and then found great resources on Pinterest for crafts and take action projects.
What I am really trying to say is instead of complaining, just ask for help. It's out there, there is a ton of it and if you are open to it, you'll find success.
So on that note, what's challenging you right now? Let's see if we can find some answers for you!
