Parent Letter for Welcome to the Daisy Garden Journey

This was my favorite Journey that I did with the girls. It's also a great Journey to start with!  Here's a copy of the letter that I sent home to parents.

Dear Daisy Parents,

At our next meeting, we will begin our Daisy Flower Garden Journey. This Journey is one of my favorites because there are so many fun activities to do!

In “Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden,” girls are introduced to the Girl Scout Law. Girls learn about the law more in depth in the Journey and begin to understand the values of the Girl Scout Law which is the foundation for everything we do in Girl Scouting.

During the journey, girls earn three separate awards that are then placed on a larger rectangle patch to display on their tunic or vest.

WATERING CAN AWARD Represents girls being responsible for what they say and do. Girls earn it by taking care of their a garden and beginning to understand the Promise and Law. This award is normally earned in the beginning of the Girl Scout year. We will be planting a herb garden this year.

GOLDEN HONEY BEE AWARD Represents taking action in a big or small way to make the world a better place. Girls earn it by completing a planting or growing project in their community. This award is normally earned in the middle of the Girl Scout year. We will talk about how even the smallest child can make a difference in the world.

AMAZING DAISY AWARD Represents knowing and living by the Promise and Law. Girls earn it by making the Promise to live by the Girl Scout Law. This award is normally earned at the closing party where they can say the Promise and Law from memory. It will take many meetings for the girls to work on this. They are encouraged to practice it once a day at home.

For our Take Action Project (TAP) we will be growing a community garden. From this garden we will harvest food to eat at a meeting. We will also share it with the members of our troop. Additionally, we will "share a smile" through our community.

If you have items like gardening tools that we can borrow, please let us know. We are also looking for seeds, river rocks (like the kind they use in landscaping) and garden soil.
