How to Get Things Done When Working with a Large Group
I do have to say I have gotten really good at managing groups of kids and keeping them busy. When it comes to Girl Scouts managing a group can be tricky because you don't see them every single day. Plus they are generally so excited to be at Girl Scouts that enthusiasm gets the best of them.
Here's some tips to get kids back on track:
Break into Groups
Smaller groups always work better. Set up stations and have parents help you move the girls from station to station. If you need to have two stations that have the same craft so you can keep them moving then do that.
Require Parents to Help
There is no reason why you shouldn't have parents helping you. However you may want to consider having girls not be in the same group as their mom to let them build autonomy and independance.
Write out a Meeting Plan
People normally do this and after one or two meetings, give up. Don't give up. Take 5 minutes to write down what you are doing. It really does help and then gives parents no excuse to not help.
Use Your Phone
Get a cute girlie Ringtone and then use it as a prompt. Tell the girls let's get started and when you hear (insert the sound/song/chime) we are going to move to the next activity. Remember, you have to keep your voices down or you won't hear it! It really helps getting things on track!
Have a tip you want to share? We would love to hear them!
